Community Sport and Fitness Park is open!

Area residents are enjoying a new outdoor destination this summer on the Dupont Hospital campus.  The Community Sport and Fitness Park, located southeast of the hospital, is now open.  Dupont Hospital team members, employees of other businesses on the campus, and residents of neighboring communities are already taking advantage of this large, grassy space that includes:

  • a paved walking track (just under a half mile) that can be used for walking, running, bicycling, rollerblading, etc.,
  • ten fitness stations permanently placed at measured intervals along a portion of the walking track,
  • a completed soccer field that is appropriately measured, graded and marked for play,
  • a practice field that can also be used for sports practice, kite flying, picnics, pet walking, etc.

The fitness stations along the walking track feature activities and information that adults of all ages can find useful.  Most of the stations offer two levels of challenge – one for beginners and one for advanced users.  Activities at the stations focus on warm-up exercises, cardio exercises, strength training, balance and stability, and more.  Each station also features a wellness panel with useful information about topics like the benefits of exercise, healthy eating habits and stress reduction/pain management.

“We are so pleased to offer Dupont Hospital team members and our neighbors an easy, free way to get active!” said Karen Springer, chief operating officer at Dupont Hospital. “The Community Sport and Fitness Park gives everyone an opportunity to get some exercise over their lunch hour, or before or after their shift.  It’s also a great place for families to enjoy time together.”
