Cardiovascular Cath Lab

Specialists in the Dupont Hospital cath lab utilize image-guided therapy (catheterization) to diagnose and treat heart and vascular conditions. This minimally invasive technique enables cardiologists and radiologists to evaluate blood flow, identify heart and blood vessel concerns, and even resolve certain conditions.

During catheterization, a thin, hollow, flexible tube is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin or wrist. This tube is guided through the blood vessel to examine the heart, arteries, and veins with real-time images (fluoroscopy) that provide information about a variety of conditions. These procedures only require a tiny incision, resulting in less blood loss, less pain, and a quicker recovery for patients.

Dupont Hospital's cath team - interventional cardiologists, cardiac nurses, and technologists - work together to help patients and families feel comfortable, safe and informed during cardiac and vascular procedures, including:

  • Heart catheterization
  • Cardiac stent placement
  • Embolizations (cancer care)
  • Peripheral angiography
  • Revascularization
  • Intravascular ultrasound
  • Kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty
  • Port placement
  • Pain procedures
  • Laser vein ablation
