Sleep Disorders

Sleep Center

Regular, restful sleep helps us make the most of our waking hours. Unfortunately, about half of all Americans experience a sleep-related problem at some point in their lives, which can lead to:

  • Memory loss
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Irritability
  • Depression
  • Poor job performance
  • Relationship issues

Sleep disorders can even be life-threatening because they create a greater risk of obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Fortunately, most sleep disorders can be managed and sometimes even corrected if properly diagnosed and treated.

Sleep Studies Detect Disorders
The Dupont Center for Sleep Health's board-certified physicians, sleep technologists and respiratory therapists can help determine the cause, effects and best treatment options for a variety of sleep disorders. A sleep study is an important tool, providing insight into what the body does during sleep.

Patients participating in a study at the center sleep in comfortable, suite-style rooms. Brain activity, breathing patterns, heart rhythms and muscle activity are monitored and recorded. Results are reviewed by the team and individualized treatment plans are developed.

Home Sleep Testing
Home sleep testing may be an option for certain initial sleep disorder evaluations and may be required by insurance before additional testing or treatment in a sleep center. If the initial study produces a positive result for sleep apnea, a return visit to the center may be necessary.

Some of the most common sleep disorders identified through a sleep study are:

  • Sleep apnea (obstructive and complex)
  • Narcolepsy
  • Insomnia (problems falling or remaining asleep)
  • Restless legs
  • Parasomnias (problems transitioning between being awake and deep sleep)

A physician order is required for a sleep study. Please contact your primary care physician's office.
